About The Saviours Trust

As with other public buildings and spaces, All Saints' Church in Pontefract grounds are used by people sleeping rough. The numbers fluctuate, many people stay just one night and move on while others are befriended and stay a while.

Some of the individuals sleeping rough are ex-offenders. On researching housing provision for ex offenders. we have found there is little or no provision for them and sometimes a lack of cooperation from housing authorities.

In 2006, after weeks of one man staying in the shed at All Saints' Priest in Charge, Revd. Vic Iwanuschak, the Church Council (PCC) agreed to this individual sleeping in the church hall whilst housing issues where resolved. All Saints Church has gone on to challenge housing issues by forming the Saviour Trust which works in partnership with housing agents, government agencies and drug/alcohol advisory bodies to offer/seek suitable housing , mentoring, support for family cohesion, and employment for those who need it most - those without shelter.
